Five senior swimmers traveled to Irvine and competed among teams representing Cal Berkley, USC, Stanford, University of Texas, UNLV and others. Bobby Yribarren achieved the highest place of any TNT swimmer competing at the Speedo Grand Challenge in Irvine placing 17th in the 1500 freestyle. His time of 17:00.58 was approximately 5 seconds under Sam Hansens previous team record of 17:05.35 which was set at long course Junior Olympics last year. Another highlight heat involved Sam Hansen being circle seeded in the 1500 freestyle with USA National Team member representing Stanford, Chad LaTourette.
Perfect improvements were established by both Wesley Coles who swam two new Sectional cuts (100 meter fly 1:00.58 and 100 free 56.98) and Colin Landweer who also established long course Sectional cuts in two events (400 free 4:24.56 & 100 free 56.44). Hannah Giles competed in three events and improved her 100 meter freestyle event (1:04.08).
