Allyson Duffy and Mallory Korenwinder were 2 of our 14 TNT swimmers who competed at the first annual Jim Turner Memorial trials and finals senior meet held in Bakersfield over the February 11th-13th weekend. In a friendly-environment meet that hosted only about fifty swimmers total, performances by Allyson Duffy and Mallory Korenwinder rose to a level that warranted setting new team records in the 11-12 age group. Allyson had set the 1650 freestyle record at the Tulare meet this past December, and now only two months later, resets the record at 18:33.20 thereby qualifying for the Senior Group in Tulare. Her time currently ranks 39th in the nation for all 12-year old female swimmers. Mallory Korenwinder swam to a 1st place finish in the 200 breaststroke event with a time of 2:33.26 which was a second and a half under the preexisting team record previously set by Joclyn Ford at Vacaville in 2002. Mallory’s time currently ranks as the 40th fastest time in the nation for all 12-year old girls.

Event champions were led by three of our swimmers who tripled up in their wins: Wesley Coles who won the 200 fly (1:58.09), 100 breast (1:03.38) and 100 fly (52.83) events; Sam Hansen won the 200 breast (2:15.17), 500 free (5:07.47) and 400 IM (4:21.04); and Colin Landweer who won the 100 back (56.88), 100 free (49.26) and 50 free (22.60). Other event champions included Katelyn Herrera (200 fly – 2:24.77), Mallory Korenwinder (200 breast), and Chris Nolan (1650 free – 17:49.67).

Chelsea Arroyo along with Emily Lehrman led the team in improvement percentages, each improving all their events that were previously recorded with the team. Those improving 50% or more of their times included: Khloe McCarthy (80%), Chris Nolan (80%), Mallory Korenwinder (60%), and Allyson Duffy (57%).

The small size of the meet allowed our athletes the opportunity to earn second swims. Besides those previously listed, Mia Newkirk, Hannah Giles, Emily Goodbar and Kyle Grissom each earned second swims at the meet.

Congratulations to all.
